Paul Newman

WESTPORT, Conn. — Paul Newman, the Oscar-winning superstar who personified cool as the anti-hero of such films as "Hud," "Cool Hand Luke" and "The Color of Money" — followed by a second act as an activist, race car driver and popcorn impresario — has died. He was 83.

Newman died Friday at his farmhouse near Westport following a long battle with cancer, publicist Jeff Sanderson said. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.
Today marks a day of sadness for me and perhaps more my generation in the death of the legendary actor Paul Newman. I know that for most women in general they had huge crushes on him, and of course it was deserving. I myself have never been one of those that had crushes on actors per say (now rock stars? could be a different story) but back to Paul Newman. A man with nothing but class. Starting with his marriage to Joanne Woodward he quotes this, When asked by Playboy magazine if he were ever tempted to stray he says
"I have steak at home, why go out for hamburger?"
They wed in 1958, around the same time they both appeared in "The Long Hot Summer." Newman also directed her in several films, including "Rachel, Rachel" and "The Glass Menagerie."
Think how different Hollywood would be if the actors took after and lived their life like this man. Of course it would take the National Enquirer off the shelves. But would not that be nice?
He was such a wonderful actor. But he also was so much a wonderful human being.
He will be missed and remembered by so many.

In December 1994, about a month before his 70th birthday, he told Newsweek magazine he had changed little with age.

"I'm not mellower, I'm not less angry, I'm not less self-critical, I'm not less tenacious," he said. "Maybe the best part is that your liver can't handle those beers at noon anymore," he said.
