A stand of lodgepole pine trees in Montana’s Yellowstone Park are backlit by the glow of the 1988 North Fork Fire, which charred nearly 800,000 acres (324,000 hectares) of the park. Such fires are actually good news for lodgepoles, whose pine cones need extreme heat to release their seeds.

I love learning things, especially things I think I perhaps should have already known as is the case with why I am posting this picture. I never knew that lodgepole pines needed extreme heat to release their seeds. An avid lodgepole burner for heat (I swear by DEAD lodgepole over anything available around where I live) It just heats the best and lasts the longest. Now come to find out for new ones to grow they need extreme heat to get their seeds released. Hmmmm. I guess that's why lodgepole is slim pickens around these parts. Gee I do live in the mountains!

How do you get someone to comment?
Friday, July 25, 2008
Just about any blog that I go to, I will try to at least leave a comment, or if there is a guest book I will sign it. Am I just a handful of people that do? I am really wondering about that. I go to other blogs and I see all sorts of comments, yet I very rarely see any on mine. I realize this blog is only 12 days old. I also know that sooo much of it is my family, of which I would not even expect a comment. However it goes for my other 2 blogs as well. My 2pass2me blog I use to get a few people that would comment and send me funny, humorus items, but even that has sizzled down. I would love an honest opinion? Maybe it is to young of a blog. Is there to many posts on my page? I personally don't care much for having to click for every post (magazine style) but is that what most people like?
Thanks if you will let me know. It will be appreciated.
PEACE!!!

The Innocence Project- A Cause sooo close to my heart!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Anyone that knows me on a personal level knows I have a passion about the innocence project along with those that have kept up with my blogs. I am simply copying and pasting this from their "About us" page and when you are done reading this I URGE you to go to http://www.innocenceproject.org/ yourself and fill yourself up with the knowledge of this cause that is so dear to my heart. It is a cause that simply CANNOT be ignored!!!
About the Innocence Project
The Innocence Project is a non-profit legal clinic affiliated with the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University and created by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld in 1992. The project is a national litigation and public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. As a clinic, law students handle case work while supervised by a team of attorneys and clinic staff.
Most of our clients are poor, forgotten, and have used up all legal avenues for relief. The hope they all have is that biological evidence from their cases still exists and can be subjected to DNA testing. All Innocence Project clients go through an extensive screening process to determine whether or not DNA testing of evidence could prove their claims of innocence. Thousands currently await our evaluation of their cases.
DNA testing has been a major factor in changing the criminal justice system. It has provided scientific proof that our system convicts and sentences innocent people — and that wrongful convictions are not isolated or rare events. Most importantly, DNA testing has opened a window into wrongful convictions so that we may study the causes and propose remedies that may minimize the chances that more innocent people are convicted.
As forerunners in the field of wrongful convictions, the Innocence Project has grown to become much more than the "court of last resort" for inmates who have exhausted their appeals and their means. We are a founding member of The Innocence Network, a group of law schools, journalism schools and public defender offices across the country that assists inmates trying to prove their innocence whether or not the cases involve biological evidence which can be subjected to DNA testing. We consult with legislators and law enforcement officials on the state, local, and federal level, conduct research and training, produce scholarship and propose a wide range of remedies to prevent wrongful convictions while continuing our work to free innocent inmates through the use of post-conviction DNA testing.
We hope that this site will raise awareness and concern about the failings of our criminal justice system. It is a facet of our society that eventually touches all of its citizens. The prospect of innocents languishing in prison or, worse, being put to death for crimes that they did not commit, should be intolerable to every American, regardless of race, politics, sex, origin, or creed.

Now that you have read this I want to share with you some correspondonce I had with this fine group of people today.
I asked to be added to this causes mailing list awhile back when I just had to know more about the men that are getting released out of prison( after being wrongfully convicted) after doing massive amounts of time, some in their second decade. It mortifys me to think that this is really happening here in the United States. When I read of someone on death row being released due to our D.N.A. testing and you read they have been in prison for say 25 years, I personally think of my children and giving birth to them 25 years ago. I think of all the wonders of their 25 years on this earth, all the way from birth, through schooling, first kisses, proms, perhaps marriage and perhaps children of their own. To think that somebody has sat on Death Row the same amount of time, wrongfully convicted, well I cannot even express it.
Today I wrote this letter to the Innocence Project at 12:42 pacific daylight savings time or P.S.D.
This was in reference to a page on their sight that I was inquiring about.
At 12:49 P.M. I received a letter thanking me for my interest etc. This was NOT a form letter.I was so impressed.
The Cal. Senate Appropriations Committee is the letter I was referring to and I urge all Californians to send this letter as I have done.
This is a letter I received today from the Innocence project and in it is the links I am speaking of.

The deaf ears they must have endured, the family strife. All the people they must have spoke too claiming their innocence. And ALL the people that did not listen. And then comes the Innocence Project. I could go on and on (again) about this cause but this is being written for another reason that I am getting back too."Relating it to having children that are that old is the way I look at the time frame in my own mind. It is just MY personal way."
Today I wrote this letter to the Innocence Project at 12:42 pacific daylight savings time or P.S.D.

"I would like to place your page (the 10 things you can do to help) page along with the links on my blogs. May I do this? I also wondered if you have buttons or banners one can place on their personal blogs to promote the innocence project. I also sent the letter from California. Being a Californian I am EXTREMELY interested with this. I blog to a lot of my friends many of whom are in California and I would love to be able to post about your posts with links and such. I want to know if it is allowable
Thank you

Dear Allison, Thank you for doing your part to ensure that all wrongfully convicted Californians receive the monetary compensation and access to the reintegrative services they need and deserve. Your voice makes a difference! Your message has been sent to:
And visit our website for other ways to get involved today. Thanks again for taking action on behalf of the wrongfully convicted, The Innocence Project |
"I wish I had money to donate to this fine organization, but I don't, however I sure would like to think I can help out in some small way by spreading the word on my little old blog. I would love to hear from anyone that perhaps took the time to at least go to this site and read what this organization is all about."I also would like to leave you with a personal thought from me.
"What have you done in the last 5 years of YOUR life? The good, the bad, and the ugly, ALL OF IT!. What have you done? Did you graduate a school? Get married, have a child? Learn a new language? How about like me? find out you have a true passion that you never new you had?( for me woodworking)PEACE!!!
Now imagine yourself in prison for a crime you did not do for those five years? What would you have missed?"

Nations- Native American Poem
Tuesday, July 22, 2008Where Will Our Children Live
A lonesome warrior stands in fear of what the future brings, he will never hear the beating drums or the songs his brothers sing.
Our many nations once stood tall and ranged from shore to shore but most are gone and few remain and the buffalo roam no more.
We shared our food and our land and gave with open hearts, We wanted peace and love and hope, but all were torn apart.
All this was taken because we did not know what the white man had in store, They killed our people and raped our lands and the buffalo roam no more.
But those of us who still remain hold our heads up high, and the spirits of the elders flow through us as if they never died.
Our dreams will live on forever and our nations will be reborn, our bone and beads and feathers all will be proudly worn.
If you listen close you will hear the drums and songs upon the winds, and in the distance you will see....the buffalo roam again.

Want to find out where YOUR money went?
Monday, July 21, 2008Want to find out where YOUR money went?
Have you ever wondered where your money goes AFTER you spent it! I found this site called Wheres George?
First go to this site and register. It is very important to read their terms. After you sign up. Then it will be explained to you just how this works. In a nutshell , you register all your bills and then ask those that receive your bills to go to Wheres George? and they will be asked where they got the bill (town ,state and if possible, store(Wal-Mart, drug , grocery, etc.) what kind of shape it is in ).Wheres George then gives you all the statistics, such as how far it traveled and how long it took to get there. I live in Ca. and had one get to New York in no time at all., then I had another go just 20 miles and as far as I know it is still there. It's a fun little hobby. Check it out.
I cannot stress enough tho' about there reasoning for their terms, mainly I think the BIG one is they don't want you to give all your bills to a bank, It's like cheating, ya know? It is not the normal everyday routine a normal bill would go thru.
If you are into this or find this interesting go for it and have FUN!!!
And to my Canadian friends this sight ALSO offers a Wheres Willy for Canadian currency

For some time many of us have wondered just who is Jack Schitt?
Thursday, July 10, 2008
For some time many of us have wondered just who is Jack Schitt?
We find ourselves at a loss when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt!'
Well, thanks to genealogy efforts, you can now respond in an intellectual way.
Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt.
Awe Schitt was married to O. Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, and owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc. They had one son, Jack.
In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt.
The deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt.
Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout.
After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced.
Noe Schitt later married Ted Sherlock, and because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Schitt-Sherlock.
Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they produced a son with a rather nervous disposition who was nick-named Chicken Schitt.
Two of the other six children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony.
The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens nuptials.
The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Horse.
Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world.
He recently returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt.
Now when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt,' you can correct them.
Sincerely,
Crock O. Schitt

Goerge Carlin
Thursday, June 26, 2008
With the passing of George Carlin and my lateness of even finding out about it (due to fires, electricity, and no internet either,) I felt compelled to go to my Stumbleupon blog to find this, something I had found in November of 2007, while "Stumbling."In my opinion there are those who considered his work crude, and indeed he did have some definite shock value. Perhaps that is why sooo many know of his name. I personally enjoyed his shows and for the most part his way of saying things.
In my opinion perhaps he was one of the few REAL people around anymore. I for one am going to miss this man and his work greatly.
Below I believe if you take the time to read this YOU may be shocked at just how "truthful" and how very big of a heart (in my opinion) this man had.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers,
wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more,
but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment,
more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast,
get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, & pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon & back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait.
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less & less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men & small character, steep profits & shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips,
disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, & pills that do everything from cheer,
to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window & nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology
can bring this letter to you, & a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones,
because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe,
because that little person soon will grow up & leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only
treasure you can give with your heart & it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it.
A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for
someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to
share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.
If you don't send this to at least 8 people....Who cares?
- George Carlin

The Dirt Bike Rider
Tuesday, May 20, 2008
On Saturday May 17th I went with my son Travis and his son (my grandson) Jeremiah to watch Jeremiah race his dirt bike. It was a beautiful sunny day, one of the first ones for my part of the country. Along with us were two other boys and their family's . One is Jeremiah's best friend Mikey, who later on that afternoon was having a week belated birthday party. He was going to be celebrating his 6th birthday. Yes my little dirt bike racers were in the 6 year age period!
The other little boy, Cooper, I had never met before, along with his parents with whom it was a joy to meet. Being the Grandma I was much older than the rest of them. But I was not treated as such!
I know Mikey's mom and have met his dad a few times. The race was to start at 9 A.M. that morning and we were on the road at 6:30 A.M. I have not been up that early in a long time. I have been a mom since I was 16 , so sleeping in was something I never had the privilege of doing. The drive was around 75 miles from our house. Living in the mountains those 75 miles took us down our mountain and straight to the desert. This is Jeremiah sticking his head out of the sunroof looking at the dirt bike tracks!
We did not come prepared for that! No water, nor sunscreen, NOR SHADE!!!
They did however allow our boys to use the little guys track the whole day. That is where they had there fun!
And with Cooper clearly in the lead
they round the corner
Where Jeremiah Lee CLEARLY takes the lead for the rest of the race. Cooper comes in 2nd with Mikey placing 3rd!
YES!!!
Grandmothers are suppose to brag!

Is it not a wonderful sight to see in the eyes of a 6 year old " pure excitement!!!"
That is his Daddy, my son Travis standing at the drivers door.
I think I see the glimmer of excitement on his face also!!!
This could be a very long story as there were many things that did not quite go right, such as the boys division 's race was not until 4 to 5 in the afternoon.I think I see the glimmer of excitement on his face also!!!
We did not come prepared for that! No water, nor sunscreen, NOR SHADE!!!

This is my Jeremiah Lee
Now there were others there also who thought the race was at 9A.M. for his age group. Sooo What do you do in that situation? You make a race for them all.
And that is what we did!!!
And that is what we did!!!
On your mark!
And Travis lets the flag (in this case old bandana) down
Go!
Go!
