Stupid Math question of the day!!!
Thursday, December 25, 2008
I wrote a post a couple days ago entitled "Who is your role model" It was sent to me from my 3rd born son Troy in the spirit of funny. I in turn posted it here in the spirit of funny. However one of my readers and a couple of my friends explained to me that they knew I was going to be the #9 before they even scrolled down. I would love to know how they knew this.
I am the master to mathematical illiteracy. I should be the poster child to "Why it is important to learn math" Over at King Al’s Thoughts of the Day he occasionally runs a post that he calls "Stupid math question of the day" Let me tell you , one ought to just cut the middle man and put my face there.
Always excellent in school, I mean for the most part I was a B+ to A student, except math. Since I did so well in other subjects I believe that one of two things occurred for me. I was always blessed with excellent teachers whom made learning fun. EXCEPT, (I kid you not when I tell you) the two math teachers I had in high school were like this. One a female approximately 110 years old, stood 4 feet 10 inches tops and walked around the classroom with a pointer that she used as a stick. She would walk around and SLAM that stick on to your desk and scare the shit right on out of you. The other was a man. Probably in his 30's who spoke monotone. Now first not being good at math and then to have it taught to me by a man that had no exclamation in his voice made it down right boring!!! boring!!! and did I mention boring!!! Add to that in my day to graduate high school you only need have basic math. For the most part had ANY of my other teachers who taught me throughout my life taught math I perhaps would have learned a little something.
So , I am asking a math question on this Christmas day. How does it work out that the numbers always end up being #9 in the post I am speaking of.
Please I have no shame in being the stupid , in stupid math question of the day or any other way of finding out, what I am sure is a very simplistic answer. Any teachers out there want to help a 50 year young student?????
I bet there are those that are thinking"Why does she not just google it?" Well the answer to that my friend is I would not even know where to start!
Yup STUPID is a nice term in reference to me and math.
Also just a bit of irony in all this. Working with wood like I do with scroll work and especially intarsia, math is such a vital part of the whole process. So if there are any kids reading this, there is truth that YOU DO need math in all that you do, even a little woodworking on the side.

Wedding dress and me?
Wednesday, August 13, 2008This is the outcome of what "my ideal wedding dress says about me" test/quiz.
Considering I NEVER HAD A WEDDING but have been married twice. (My first husband and father of my sons died almost 11 years ago) and I remarried again almost 5 years ago. So the outcome of this is a bit of irony. I never was one of those little girls that grew up wanting a beautiful wedding and all the things that goes with one, I did however want to be married in a wedding dress. Something I never got to do. My two daughters-in-laws however had BEAUTIFUL and wonderful weddings and I remember being a little on the jealous side. Oh well, I suppose that is what happens (not having a big wedding, and a wedding dress) when you find yourself pregnant, unwed, and a sophomore in high school in the early 70's LOL!!!
This is the outcome of what "my ideal wedding dress says about me" test/quiz.
What Your Ideal Wedding Dress Says About You |
![]() Your Personal Style: Eclectic and very unique. You don't follow fashion. You prefer to create your own trends. Your Ideal Wedding: Just the two of you, saying your vows while skydiving or flying around in a hot air balloon. Your Philosophy on Marriage: It's a risk like everything else, and hopefully a big adventure. Your Perfect Marriage: Having someone to share memories with, without feeling tied down or constrained |
A very close friend of mine

34 years ago (and 9 minutes) I knew a 16 year old girl that had a baby. It was a boy. He weighed in at a whopping 7 lbs. 13 1/2 ounces. Hard to believe that she was able to hide this pregnancy all the way until she was almost 7 months pregnant.. She only weighed a mere 90-93 lbs. soaking wet normally. I guess that is what truly scared and frightened teen-age girls do when they are scared to death to tell anyone. Hide things! Like throwing up throughout the whole Christmas season. You would think perhaps someone would notice? I personally would have thought that puking every morning before ya went to High School would be a dead give away! Apparently not! Nobody EVER noticed. Even when she would get to school, I remember her throwing up when she would get off the bus. I remember her practically living in that bathroom for 1st period and part of second period. But even I never thought to ask her what was up. I suspect she would not have told me anyway.
And she never did tell me then.
And you just cannot get any closer than we were
And then there is that extra special sweet 16 birthday a young girl is suppose to enjoy sooo much. I know it really isn't meant to be hanging over a toilet and worshiping a porcelain God!!!
Its sad to me all these years later, because she knew EVERYTHING right? All 16 year olds know everything. Ask any of them. LOL!!! She was still going to live her dream of being a veterinarian. She did not want to be a domestic animal veterinarian per-say. She wanted to be a veterinarian that took care of farm animals, like cows, steers, bulls pigs, etc. Live on a ranch somewhere. That's all she ever wanted to do! And she was still going to get to do that!
Its funny the way I think about her now. She did not have a clue.
She has never been sorry for the choices that were made, but she does sometimes wonder what life might have been like! I haven't "seen" her in years now, but I always remember her on this date.

Graduation Card!!!
Friday, June 13, 2008
For the last day and a half I have tried to write this post. It is not about woodworking whatsoever. It's about friends and friendship. It is about a graduation card I received in the mail day before yesterday! YES I said graduation! Did I mention it is a high school congratulations for graduating high school card! I graduated 33 years ago this month.
YES I said 33 years ago. This card was/is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. Respect will keep me from divulging anything more, but trust me when I say there really is no greater gift than a friend. One must NEVER lose sight of that!!!
P.S. I have this frog as the header of my other blog, and he always makes me smile. The card I received just so happens to have had a frog on it. There is not even a possibility that I could ever find a picture better than this to represent the way that card makes me feel!
PEACE!!!
Allison
Thanks B.G.
