Memorial Day and controlled burns

Sunday, May 24, 2009
I am walking into town a little over 2 miles away. I look up at the skies and notice that there is smoke coming up over the mountains. I am SHOCKED and saddened as I know this is a fire. Last summer all around us were forest fires. The smoke was so thick you did not want to go outside because with every breath you took you could feel your lungs burn. Your eyes burned and your clothes and home smelled of smoke more than you could imagine. It was like that from the 1st of June all the way through the summer. A summer I will never forget.

Orange County Fires

Monday, November 17, 2008
Quite awhile back I said I was done changing my blog template. I was happy with the one I had .Night before last however I received a phone call from one of my sons that lives down in Southern Ca. Him and his wife had just bought a condo there about 6 weeks to a couple of months ago. They were being evacuated due to the fires. Being a mommy I was worried sick. Living in the town I live in there is no place to go after 6 P.M. except the bar and I don't do the bar. So sleep was evading me and I had nothing to do. I googled earth so much it was pathetic, I stumbled till I could stumble no more. I crocheted till my fingers hurt, and I googled everything I have always meant to google. That left me with only one thing to do. Find another template for Just My Day Blog!
Do you like it?
I finally fell asleep, (or should I say my boys in southern Ca. must have fell asleep cuz the phone quit ringing ) and THEN I finally fell asleep.
I am happy to say he was allowed back into his new home yesterday. I think it was yesterday. Nights like those can really screw up your "internal clock" and then add a couple years! LOL!!
PEACE!!!

The bear climbs over the mountain

Tuesday, July 29, 2008
Living in northern Ca. I have been in the middle of over 2000 wildland wildfires this summer. We have not had a clear blue sky until day before yesterday and it was wonderful. It did not last long. This was taken this evening when I literally walked out my back door!
The bear climbs over the mountain,
The bear climbs over the mountain,
The bear climbs over the mountain,
and what do you think he saw?

What do you think he saw?
What do you think he saw?
What do you think he saw?
The bear climbs over the mountain and what do you think he saw?
The words I wrote comes from a "Smokey the Bear commercial " that has been running on television up where I live recently.
Remember "Only you can prevent forest fires!"

Lodgepole Pines, Yellowstone, Montana, 1989

Photograph by Jonathan Blair
A stand of lodgepole pine trees in Montana’s Yellowstone Park are backlit by the glow of the 1988 North Fork Fire, which charred nearly 800,000 acres (324,000 hectares) of the park. Such fires are actually good news for lodgepoles, whose pine cones need extreme heat to release their seeds.

(Photo shot on assignment for, but not published in, "Extinctions," June 1989, National Geographic magazine)
I love learning things, especially things I think I perhaps should have already known as is the case with why I am posting this picture. I never knew that lodgepole pines needed extreme heat to release their seeds. An avid lodgepole burner for heat (I swear by DEAD lodgepole over anything available around where I live) It just heats the best and lasts the longest. Now come to find out for new ones to grow they need extreme heat to get their seeds released. Hmmmm. I guess that's why lodgepole is slim pickens around these parts. Gee I do live in the mountains!

Fires and Little League

Thursday, June 26, 2008

This is what it looked like at the little league awards ceremony today. Quite frankly I am a little shocked they even had it in this kind of smoke, BUT the kids deserved it and why should they have to wait, ya know? They all worked real hard this year, and I for one am proud of all the boys and girls that played. It was fun and I hate to see it over sooooo soon!

As of this picture taking which was at 7:07 P.M. tonight, Highway's 32 and 70 were closed due to the fire. That is getting close!!!

You will notice how smokey the next pictures of Jeremiah Lee and me are right after this post . It is sooooo very sad.

The Fires

Wednesday, June 25, 2008
This is getting down right scary. My husband drove to Chester Ca. today which is 13 miles from here, to go to the store, and found out that they have the fire camps set up in Greenville Ca. which also around 13 miles away. Last year we had the fire camp right down the (our) street for the Moonlight fire, but this seems worse. We can hardly breathe, the smoke is thick and I can't even see "my mountain" I have a feeling that we are in deep shit!

Yea I think we are in deep shit!

I lost the internet along with most outside sources to the world some time Saturday, We had one helluva storm brewing and I really felt like Dorothy wasn't gonna be in Kansas much longer. But Allison? I could not believe the D.T.'s I was having! It was not the quiet of the T.V., matter of fact I kind of liked it!
The Quiet can be . . . . . well, quiet! Quite enjoyable for some time. But NOT being able to get on line and talk to my "Buddies?" That was hell!
I am hooked, I am SOOOO hooked, I am Hooked , lined and sinkered! Okay so my spell check says sinkered is not a word. I say it is! Cuz I am . One and a half years ago I would not EVEN consider a computer, now I am soooo far gone I cannot even find my self! Below is I think the problem was to my very soon to possibly have been meltdown.
